Sheila, June, Bill and Jim
It was a nice day for March, just over 30 degrees, the sun could have been a bit warmer but it was clear enough for some nice views, with some light winds.
Navigation was easy for a bushwhack: Just make your way to the cabin, take a right and follow the blue blazed path to Vly. Bearpen is a bit trickier- follow the road behind the cabin, at the top of the sharp switchback take a right and immediate left (this is the shortcut). It will rejoin the snowmobile trail. Keep going till the T and take a right.

Bill did not really give Sheila the black eye, it was a fir tree.

Another view from the top. You can see Plattekill Ski are in the center (There is a view of Belleayre from Vly).

June had never seen Jackalope tracks before
Leave it to Sheila to find a Porta-Potty
GPS track of Bearpen and Vly Mountains (it only contains the trip up, I must have turned it off on the top of Bearpen): Vly_Bearpen GPX

I love a hike that starts with a port-a-potty! What a much needed relaxed and fun hike! And seeing the rare tracks of a jackelope was a treat for sure! Don’t forget the yum-yums at Phoencia diner. Great fun, see you all soon.
